Here, for your amusement...and perhaps "usement", are several self-displaying PCX files and sound effects for the HP 100LX.
The PCX files will not work on the HP 95LX. However the sound effect files will.
The PCX files were created with Win 3.1 Paintbrush: some are original, some are clipped from clip-art packages. They were all pushed through the Graphics Workshop program which automatically reverses the images and creates self-displaying files.
The sound effects were produced with Borland C/C++ 3.0. (I tried using Borland Pascal, but it has some nuisance start-up code that sets the screen to textmode thereby knocking out the graphics display. Grrr.)
The LOUD.COM and SOFT.COM files were produced with DEBUG. A word of caution: LOUD sets the volume to the maximum setting. SOFT sets the volume to the first level above no sound. They really work. However, they do not change the graphical representation of the sound level in SETUP.
TO SEE WHAT ALMOST ALL THE FILES DO, just transfer all the files to the 100LX, in a separate directory. In FILER, highlight 100DEMO.BAT and press ENTER. Don't press any keys, otherwise you won't see the final slide and the program will probably repeat itself.
There's one other file in this collection: HYPNOSIS.COM. It's a hack on an old PC Mag program. I modified it so it will run a little more quickly on the 100LX. Run HYPNOSIS and press the space bar to toggle the display from "insy to outsy". Press ON+/ and ON+* for some other interesting effects. Press ESC to end the program.
